Information Systems Management

  • By the end of this module I will be able to reduce data structures to the 3 rd Normal Form in relation to their use in applications.
  • Covered in lecture 2. I will take the Designing and Developing Acccess Databases 2 half day course at work and work through some normalisation exercises. I will also read some books from the library. I will get the chance to explain normalisation in my WRM online learning materials project.
  • By the end of this module I will be able to understand the migration of systems of objects from analysis to designed architectures, packages and components
  • By the end of this module I will be able to understand theories of Information System Development Project Management and be able to draw up and revise realistic project planning artefacts e.g. PERT networks and Gannt Charts
  • By the end of this module I will be able to understand the importance of Quality and Testing in IS Development Projects;
  • By the end of this module I will have an understanding of the various roles and career paths an IS developer needs to Manage
  • By the end of this moduled I will have a view on various approaches to Knowledge Management

"Lecture one was about Normalization and it went straight over my head. I felt like I was in a spiritual or highly intellectual lecture. I hope to attend the Designing and Developing Databases course mid-october and I have printed an article from Wikipedia.com. Also a colleague at work said they will go through it with me. I also have home work".

Assessment: 3 in class tests (classed as coursework). Exams Summer 2007.

Financial Accounting 1
  • By the end of this module I will be able to state the uses/ users of accounting information

    "Lecture one was quite good. The lecturer has a good teaching style. There are no assignments just a mid term test mid-end of November and exam in June. I will have to practise a lot because it is maths – a language which must be used and applied. Little and often will be my method. Lots of rules to learn by heart, which I am good at. But I must apply what I learn"

General comment - I get the week-end to study. I should write an action plan on Friday evenings, for the week-end. I should jump in to the homework, the day after I get it, just to make a start and focus on research materials.
