Knowledge Transfer

The Group has an established track record of sponsorship from industry (BP, Huntsman-Tioxide, Advanced Plasma Power); including both research funding for co-sponsored PhD/EngD projects and equipment.

Through experimental and CFD modelling research, the research of the Group has contributed to the development of new knowledge on the effect of process conditions on the fluidization behaviour of industrial catalysts and contributed to the development of new industrial processes.

Through theoretical modelling, the group has also contributed to the design of the gas clean-up system of an industrial scale energy-from-waste combustion plant in Italy, by demonstrating the increased efficiency and economic viability of replacing the conventional calcium hydroxide sorbent with sodium bicarbonate in the removal of acidic pollutants from the flue-gas stream.

Our research benefits from using our unique X-ray Imaging facility; should you be interested in finding out more about this facility please contact Dr Lettieri

Public Engagement in the Engineering discipline

Since 2001, Dr Lettieri has also substantially contributed to engaging the public at National level in the understanding of the engineering discipline and communicating the latest developments in engineering research through work with the Royal Academy of Engineering and the British Association for the Advancement of Science on the organization of the Engineering programme for the annual BA Festival of Science.
