Department of Spanish and Latin American Studies
General Information
UCL, where the first chair of Spanish in the United Kingdom was founded
in 1828, is an important centre of Hispanic Studies which in recent years has
attracted specialists in a wide range of disciplines, including
history of contemporary Latin America, history of Brazil,
archaeology of Middle and South America, economics of Latin America,
and geography. Our Department contributes significantly to the rich variety
of Hispanic Studies at UCL through the teaching and research of our own specialities in Spanish Golden Age narrative and drama;
contemporary Spanish narrative, drama and film; Spanish and Latin American poetry; Latin American narrative, including
the short story and women's novels; and Spanish and Latin American travel literature.
The Department offers teaching for
undergraduate degrees, graduate degrees and provides supervision for research
degrees.
