Drug induced lupus is when lupus is caused due to the chronic
use of drugs. In this case, this is when the body starts to
attack itself. Other symptoms would include Joint pain, fatigue,
as well as heart inflammation. The two biggest causes of DIL
are :
- Procainamide (antiarrhythmic)
- Hydralazine (antihypertensive)
Fortunately this type of lupus is curable, this is done by having
the patient stopping the drug that is causing this.

This process could take weeks to months, however this may be difficult if the patient is on
multiple medication, which may lead to the patient being off their pills for 3 months. The
recovery for this can take from a few weeks all the way to a year, However treatment for drug
induced lupus may mimic those of the treatment for SLE (see SLE for details).
