Short BiographyPrior to joining AstraZeneca, I completed my PhD at University College London (UCL) at the Department for Statistical Science under the supervision of Professor Patrick J. Wolfe. I was working on improving our understanding of community structure in large networks. To be more precise, I introduced a novel methodology to quantify the strength of the relation between observed community structure and the interactions in a network. In turn, this provided for the first time an objective measure of whether or not a particular value of modularity is meaningful. From 2006-2012, I studied mathematics (with a specialization in statistics) at the University of Bremen in Germany. There I completed my Diploma (Masters equivalent), where for my final thesis I conducted a one year research project in collaboration with the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology (BIPS). In my Diploma thesis I discussed the ability of the Instrumental Variable approach to overcome the bias due to confounding. Concurrently to my studies, I worked as a research assistant at the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology (BIPS). Along with senior members of a multidisciplinary team, I was responsible for the design and analysis of various studies (among these, a study of the influence of midwives relative to doctors in assisting with childbirth). Furthermore, I worked as a student teaching assistant at both UCL (2012) and University of Bremen whereby my tasks included marking of written exercises and weekly tutorials. More details (CV.PDF). |
