Biography

Áureo de Paula is a Professor of Economics at University College London, also affiliated with the Centre for Microdata Methods and Practice (CeMMAP), the Institute for Fiscal Studies, and CEPR.

His research is at the intersection of applied economic theory, econometrics, and empirical microeconomics. It features both methodological contributions — such as on identification and estimation of multi-agent models and network models — as well as empirical applications, including work on tax evasion, risky behaviour in developing nations.  He has made significant contributions to the econometrics of networks, strategic interaction models, and duration analysis.

He is an elected Fellow of the Econometric Society and the International Association for Applied Econometrics and was a Turing Fellow in 2021/23. He served as an editor for the Review of Economic Studies, the Journal of Econometrics and is presently a co-editor for Econometrica.  He also served as associate editor for the Journal of EconometricsEconometric Reviews, the Econometrics Journal, and the Journal of Business and Economic Statistics as well as a director for the Review of Economic Studies and an elected member for the Council and Executive Committee for the Econometric Society.
