Special Features
PipeTech is a robust computational fluid dynamic simulator for predicting outflow following the rupture or puncture of long pipelines containing pressurised hydrocarbons. PipeTech’s background theory is extensively published in top rated scientific journals (1-18). PipeTech is employed by major oil and gas operators across the globe including the UK Health and Safety Executive. The modelling involves solution of the transient conservation equations for 1-D flow using the Method of Characteristics incorporating especially developed fast numerical simulation techniques.
PipeTech accounts for inclined pipelines, puncture orientation, handles single or multi-component mixtures, supercritical pure components, multiple segment pipelines and simulates forward and reverse flows.
PipeTech is applicable to both isolated and un-isolated flows where pumping at the high-pressure end is assumed to continue despite puncture. In the case of full bore rupture, outflow is simulated from both intact sections of the pipeline.
PipeTech is a Fortran based application incorporating a Visual.Net input interface with an extensive HELP File. Main output data, presented as Excel workbooks include tabulated and graphical presentations of mass discharge rate, rupture plane pressure, discharge temperature, liquid and vapour components mole fractions as well as release velocity as a function of time and distance along the pipeline.
