Some more Doppler shift work. This time for the thesis. The doppler shift of light from a relatavistically moving particle is due to both time dilation caused by the relative motion and the general doppler shift. The time dilation shift is inherent and due to v, but the classical doppler shift is line of sight and depends on vcostheta, where theta is the pitch angle, in this case. In the chapter, one of the test cases will be sensitivity to pitch angle distributions, using the four distributions in Rees to evaluate what's happening. I have re-engineered the doppler shift formula to work it all out in terms of relativistic kinetic energy. This will provide the shift of each possible emission. The altitude will provide the expected relative intensity of the emission. The shift then gives the position of a lorentzen profile (with fwhm equal to the instrument profile) whose height is relative to the intensity. This should then help to reconstruct profiles from the spectrograph, which points up a field line.
There are questions about protons on other field lines (which can be modelled), efficiency of the different mechanisms (which can be modelled - damned cross-sections...), thermalised proton activities (which can be modelled) as well as pitch angle distribution stuff mentioned above.
