A Paperless Global Information Environment? Introduction Desirability Feasibility Conclusion Bibliography

So what is the answer?

It would have been quite possible for me to have written this essay using only electronic resources and tools. I have written most of it in Google Docs, to enable me to quickly access the current version both at home and university. I have used Evernote to make notes on my reading. I am submitting it online. However, when it came to doing research I felt I was sure to miss valuable sources if I eschewed books and only went with those resources which are available in a digital form. A mixture of print and digital resources was the best way to proceed with my research.

Digital resources are becoming more popular and more widespread, and global access to the internet is rising (World Internet Stats, 2011 – accessed 29/10/11). However I think that the many technical and social barriers will prevent an entirely paperless global information environment from ever coming about, and that instead print and digital will continue to coexist.
