The selection for BUCS Indoors will be a two stage process. Stage 1 will involve shooting a qualifying Portsmouth score in order to be qualified and entered for BUCS Indoors. Stage 2 will involve scoring a number of WA 18 rounds to be selected and get to go to BUCS Indoors.
Recent changes are in bold.
To be entered for BUCS Indoors, you must have shot a qualifying Portsmouth score between 1st September 2017 and 8th January 2018 inclusive. Novices may ask for a week extension to the deadline. It can be shot in practice or in competition. The qualifying Portsmouth scores are:
| Recurve | Compound | Barebow | Longbow | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gents | 529 | 570 | 451 | 295 |
| Ladies | 501 | 481 | 412 | 238 |
| Recurve | Compound | Barebow | Longbow | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gents | 277 | 336 | 150 | 128 |
| Ladies | 277 | 336 | 150 | 128 |
Only those who completed Stage 1 may proceed to Stage 2.
For a given archer, the best 3 WA 18 scores will be summed, at least two of which must be in a competition or a competition session using paper scoring, signed and counter-signed. This statistic will be used to compare and rank archers. Only scores shot between 1st September 2017 and 2nd February 2018 inclusive will be considered. The style of target face (single-spot or triple-spot) to be shot at for a given bowtype will be identical as last year's BUCS event: that is recurve and compound on triple-spot, longbow and barebow on single-spot.
A total of 14 preallocated number of spaces will go to the top archers across different genders and bowtypes. These spaces will only go to archers who have completed all scoring elements of Stage 2. They will be automatically selected and guarantee to go to BUCS Indoors under mild assumptions, such as assuming the maximum number of selected archers who can go to BUCS Indoors is as least 14. We'll also assume the criteria won't compromise the competitiveness of our BUCS squad. The number of preallocated spaces for automatic selection are:
| Recurve | Compound | Barebow | Longbow | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gents | 4 | 1 | 1 | 1 |
| Ladies | 4 | 1 | 1 | 1 |
Qualified archers who have not been automatically selected will be selected or not selected in a selection meeting attended by the president, captain, field captain, records officer and coach(es) under the constrain set by BUCS a maximum number of selected archers who can go to BUCS Indoors.
For a national ranking, you will need to shoot 3 x WA 720, 2 x WA 1440 and a match for your gender and bowtype, all at least UK record status.
