From researcher to teacher: a journey between Secondary and Higher Education

After completing a Ph.D. in Geometric Analysis at King's College London in 2017, I joined the Researchers in School programme, funded by the charity The Brilliant Club, to train as a Secondary School Maths teacher to increase subject expertise, promote research, and champion university access in non-selective state schools. Little did I know that I would have embarked on a 5-year long (and counting) journey in the grey area between Secondary and Higher Education. Through traditional Teacher Qualification training, Postgraduate Certificates in Higher Education, Career Advice, and (obviously) lots of Maths, including designing lessons on Undergraduate-level Maths for secondary school pupils, I will share my experience and insights into the perks and challenges of bringing research skills into the classroom, and the lessons learnt in school into university, trying to reflect on how both educational worlds can benefit from each other.
