Applications of Operations Research in industry
Operations research deals with the development and application of analytical methods to improve decision making. It combines technics from mathematics, computer science and IT to optimize a mathematical model of an industrial process. At LocalSolver we are building a generic solver for operations researchers to find near optimal solutions to their model. We are also helping our industrial clients to minimize their costs or to maximize their revenue by developing dedicated and problem specific solutions based on our solver. In this talk we’ll see practical use cases of Operations Research encountered in the last 10 years at LocalSolver. Those use cases cover various fields such as telecom network design, TV media planning, technicians planning, construction projects scheduling, maintenance planning… Each example will describe the industrial problem, the mathematical model we optimized and links to active research topics.
