Purpose: To achieve a measure of functional visual status using routine perimetric techniques.
Methods: 55 glaucoma patients underwent monocular and binocular field testing. They completed a questionnaire about visual disability. The association between each question and the number of defects in the binocular field, and the ability of PROGRESSOR software to simulate the binocular field using monocular fields, were examined.
Results: Several of the questions correlated well with Esterman Disability Scores. PROGRESSOR provided a sensitive (84%) and specific (94%) simulation of the central binocular field.
Conclusions: PROGRESSOR enables an assessment of visual function without the need for binocular field testing.
