I am a Professor and currently Head of Department in the Department of Economics at UCL.

I am also a Research Fellow at the Institute for Fiscal Studies, where I co-direct the Centre for the Evaluation of Development Policies (EDePo) and the ESRC Centre for the Microeconomic Analysis of Public Policy (CPP).                                          

I am interested in modelling  household behaviour in  developed and developing countries and, more generally, in  Applied Econometrics.

In particular, my current and recent research has focused on:

v  Household Consumption, Saving and Labour Supply Behaviour;

v  Human Capital Accumulation during the Early Years;

v  Housing Choices and Housing Markets;

v  Risk Sharing;

v  Evaluation and Design of Policies in Developing Countries;

v  Human Capital Accumulation in Developing Countries;

v  Micro Credit;

v  Measurement Tools in Surveys.

In 2014, I have been serving as President of the European Economic Association.

In April 2016, I have been awarded the Carlos Diaz Alejandro Prize by LACEA.

In October 2016, I have been awarded the Klaus J Jacobs Research Prize.


In the past, I have been Managing Editors of the Review of Economic Studies, the Journal of the European Economic Association and Quantitative Economics.
