Research Project on the Role and Contribution of Volunteers in Biomedical Research

Welcome

This project is a collaboration between sociologists in the Department of Science and Technology Studies and researchers in the Department of Medical Physics and Bioengineering at UCL. It is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council.

The project investigates the involvement of research participants in steering the development of a new technology. It aims to assess the kind of contribution research participants can make and researchers' use of this input. Methods include monitoring scan sessions, interviewing volunteers, and systematic feedback to the research team.

Although the project is now formally completed, work continues on writing up and dissemination of results. The principal investigator is also planning a further project on volunteers in medical research, details of which will appear on this site in due course
