Professor Talvinder S. Sihra


Talvinder S. Sihra was born in Nairobi on 17th July 1960. He moved with his family to the UK in 1967 and grew up in East London. He left London in 1979 to read Biochemistry and Physiology at the University of Sheffield and obtained his batchelors degree in 1982. He then moved to the Department of Biochemistry at University of Dundee to study for his doctorate with Professor David G. Nicholls. After obtaining his PhD in 1985, he continued for one year in Dundee as a postdoctoral assistant before moving to the USA as postdoctoral associate in the Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience at the Rockefeller University (New York) with Professor Paul Greengard. In 1990 he returned to the University of Dundee with an MRC Fellowship for three years and moved back to London to the Department of Pharmacology, Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, as a Wellcome Trust Lecturer in 1993. In April 1997 he relocated to the Pharmacology Department at UCL where he is now Professor of Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience and Head of Teaching for the Department of Neuroscience, Physiology and Pharmacology. He is married to Jasmina N. Jovanovic with whom he has a two daughters Anya Lakini and Ljubica Anais. Jasmina, Anya, Ljubi and Talvinder live in East Barnet, Hertfordshire.
