Research interests

We employ a range of molecular biological, pharmacological and electrophysiological techniques to examine the structural and functional properties of neurotransmitter receptors. Since the lab was established at University College London (UCL) in 1993, we have published studies examining a variety of neurotransmitter receptors, including those activated by acetylcholine, dopamine, γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), glutamate and 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin). Currently, we have a particular interest in the allosteric modulation of ligand-gated ion channels (LGICs) such as nicotinic acetylcholine receptors and other related pentameric LGICs. Our research interests include studies of human neurotransmitter receptors that are targets for therapeutic drug discovery and also invertebrate receptors that are targets for pesticides used in areas such as crop protection and human/animal disease control.
