About Me

I am a third year PhD student joint between University College London (UCL) and the Natural History Museum (NHM), London. At UCL I am a member of the Centre for Planetary Sciences and the Department of Earth Sciences. At the NHM I am a member of the Impacts and Astromaterials Research Center, part of the Meteoritics and Cosmic Mineralogy Division of the Department of Mineralogy.

My PhD is provisionally entitled "The mineralogy and geochemistry of ureilite meteorites and their record of planetary processes in the early solar system" and is funded by NERC as a CASE studentship (joint with the NHM). I am supervised by Prof. Hilary Downes (Birkbeck/UCL/NHM), Dr. Caroline Smith (NHM) and Dr. Adrian Jones (UCL). For my carbon isotope work I am co-supervised by Dr. Sasha Verchovsky (OU). During my PhD I have been very fortunate to visit the NASA Johnson Space Center, Houston, Texas, where I work with Dr. David Mittlefehldt and Dr. Jason Herrin from the Astromaterials Research Group. To find out more about my PhD and other research interests see my research page.

I did my undergraduate degree at New Hall (now Murray Edwards College), University of Cambridge, where I obtained a First Class BA/MSci (Hons) in Natural Sciences, majoring in Earth Sciences and minoring in Physics. My master's research project was on "Compositional variability of the mantle beneath West Antarctica and its relationship to terrane tectonics: evidence from mantle xenoliths" in conjunction with the British Antarctic Survey under the supervision of Dr. Sally Gibson, Dr. Philip Leat and Dr. Alan Vaughan. For more information, see my EGU abstract here.

I was born in Hong Kong and have moved many times around the world. One of the things that has influenced my path through life was the Research Science Institute, a summer programme run by the Centre for Excellence in Education, which I attended in 2002 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston, USA.
