Rebecca Shipley

Biomechanical Engineering Group

Department of Mechanical Engineering

University College London

I joined the Department as a Lecturer in Biomedical Engineering in May 2012; previously I held a Junior Research Fellowship at Christ Church College, University of Oxford. I completed my DPhil in Applied Mathematics in Oxford in 2009.

My research involves the development of mathematical models to address key biomedical questions, and to complement results obtained using experimental methods. I focus on developing spatial and temporal multiphase models (including fluid & mass transport, cell population evolution etc) for vascularised organs, diseased tissues and for tissue engineering systems. I am interested both in deriving these models (in particular using multiscale homogenization methods), and in their solution, via a blend of analytical and numerical techniques. My research is inherently collaborative, and I work with a range of biologists, experimentalists and clinicians, both within UCL and further afield.
