My research focuses on the evolutionary biology of reproduction, with a particular interest in sexual selection, intra- and inter-locus sexual conflict, Bateman principles, sperm competition, pre- and postcopulatory female choice, sources of variation in fitness, seminal fluid effects and the role of MHC in sexual selection.
My past and current research combine the study of selection on phenotypes and evolution of genotypes to explore the different selection pressures undergone by males and females and their impact on the evolution of sexual dimorphism. Under the supervision of Dr Tommaso Pizzari (University of Oxford), my PhD focused on the sexual selection acting on the red jungle fowl phenotypes (morphological, behavioural, MHC and sperm traits). During my post-doc with Dr Max Reuter and Dr Kevin Fowler (UCL), I am now investigating the genetic basis of sexual antagonism in the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, using QTL mapping.
