I have acted as an Associate Editor for J.R.S.S. (Series B), Biometrika and Annals of Statistics and have been a referee for a large number of journals. I have been involved with various aspects of the Royal Statistical Society, including a term as Honorary Secretary from 1996 to 2002, Chair of the RSS Research Section Committee from 2005 to 2007 and member of the RSS obituaries panel from 2011 to 2013. I chaired the Scientific Programme Committee for the European Meeting of Statisticians in Toulouse, 2009. I have been a panel member for EPSRC on a number of occasions and served two terms on the EPSRC Mathematics College. I have acted as external examiner for undergraduate courses and postgraduate research students at a number of universities. During the 1980s I was an A level assistant and senior assistant examiner and assessor.
